CSCS card
IHIE members can now use their IEng or EngTech registration to obtain the CSCS card without the need for an NVQ.
IHIE registered IEngs are eligible for a Platinum card as a Transportation Practitioner and EngTechs for a gold card as a Transportation Assistant.
There's also a card for regular site visitors: the Professionally Qualified Persons CSCS Card.
In all cases you need to complete the CSCS application procedure and pass a health and safety test.
Don't be misled by the "transportation" titles: most disciplines are covered.
The Institute was one of the first five professional bodies to gain CSCS recognition alongside: Institution of Civil Engineers, Chartered Institute of Building, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, and Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists. We have all gained approval by mapping our membership criteria against specific NVQs to the satisfaction of the CSCS Board.
Your card is renewable every 5 years when you'll need to show you have maintained your competence by continuing membership of IHIE, completion of CPD and re-taking the test.
What you need to do:
See how to apply
- Pass the relevant health and safety test at supervisor or manager level
- Get two recommendations - one from your employer to confirm your competence against a checklist - the second from an IHIE registered member who must verify your Professional Development record over two years.
Professionally Qualified Person CSCS Card
If you're on site less than say 30 days over six months, apply for a full card via the Professional Qualified Persons route.
Ring CITB-ConstructionSkills' SkillsDirect service for an application form on 0870 850 5262.
You will need the special PQP booklet listing all H&S test questions for this route.
