IHIE Professional Certificates Awarded
Three graduates of the first TMS-provided Training Programme successfully passed their foundation Professional Certificate interview in April 2006:
Susan Anker and Pieter Barnard, development control officers from Essex County Council's mid area office at Chelmsford and Nicola Peck from the central development control team at Suffolk County Council.
All are new to highway development control with between 12 to 15 months experience.
Susan moved over from a clerical assistant position and is studying for her National Certificate.
Pieter came over from South Africa with a law degree to join Essex as a legal assistant in 2001.
Nicola has an HND in environmental studies and is the most experienced with previous spells in road safety and highway design.
To achieve their Certificate they presented their four assignments from the six day Training Programme to two assessors who questioned them on their knowledge and their experience at work.
The Professional Certificates state that they achieved FOUNDATION LEVEL competence in:
- the Development Control process
- issues to be considered in dealing with a planning application
- responding to consultations and preparing conditions
- post-planning consent issues
- personal responsibility
- communications and interpersonal skills
- the obligation to behave professionally, to society, the professional and the environment.
