About Us

The Institute of Highway Incorporated Engineers was founded in 1965 and celebrates its anniversary in 2005.

We have been registering engineers and technicians with the Engineering Council since 1972 and accrediting academic courses since 1989.

IHIE is runs by and for practical engineers and allied professionals.

Our staff are happy to advice you on how to progress your career and our activities are geared to supporting your professional development.

There are progression routes [Progress your career] through to Fellow (our top grade) for aspiring Incorporated Engineers, registered Engineering Technicians and for those with lots of industry experience but different or no qualifications. We are also opening up routes to CEng through ICE in 2005.

  • The Technical Report Route now means that IEng is accessible to all practitioners with the right experience. Find out more at a Preparing for Review seminar.
  • IHIE is very active in promoting incorporated engineers and technicians [How IHIE contributes] and in maximising members’ policy contributions [Policy Positions].
  • You will be made very welcome by your local branch – just click on the map to find out more.
  • IHIE supports your continuing professional development with topical conferences and training courses designed by your peers. We lead the field on training for Traffic Signs, Development Control, Highway Law and Traffic Signal implementation.
  • IHIE Guidelines draw together good practice guidance from the experts to help you improve your contribution to the community.
